The ISU Redbird hockey team was on the road last weekend as they faced off for a two game series against Robert Morris College in Chicago.

The 'Birds were unable to win either of the two games, losing the first one 6-4 and the second 3-2.

ISU scored first in the opener, but failed to kill several penalties as the game progressed.

And despite out-shooting Robert Morris in the second game 42 to 24, the Redbirds were only able to manage two goals in the defeat.

"Robert Morris is a great organization and they play in the Great Lakes Hockey Association, and they seem to play teams in Indiana and Ohio, so it was a great experience for us to play them and see how we would match up with teams further to the east," Head Coach Brian Corley said.

"Both coaching staffs were pleased with the level of play and made it clear to make sure Robert Morris comes down to Bloomington next season."

Despite losing, Redbird Steven Hong, Aaron Gold and Justin Brown contributed to the scoring and penalty killing in both games.

"The line of Robbie Dinschel, Hong and Dustin Karrison continues to be very strong for us they are really leading the way both on their five on five play and special teams," Corley said.

"We need to get more of that spread across the entire team, but another strong performance was turned out by Aaron Gold on Saturday, he had our first goal off a power play."

Andrew Jesernig also contributed to the team's effort by having an assist and two points in the first game and helping with the penalty killing in each game.

"Andrew Jesernig was quite a warrior throughout the weekend, he is a very physical player and is a center that really takes care of his defensive responsibilities," Corley said.

"He was banged up quite a bit throughout the weekend, but every time he came to the bench in bad shape it only took him a couple minutes until he was ready to go again."

The Redbirds are currently on a six game losing streak that includes tough opponents, such as Division I University of Illinois and conference opponent Eastern Illinois.

Corley believes captain Olindo Alo said it best when he said the team needs to start capturing some momentum of their own before the playoff season.

"I think we have something to prove to ourselves. We have lost six in a row and were 12-3 not too many weeks ago and now we're 12-9, so aside from all the playoffs and standings, these guys are proud and have something to prove to themselves."

The men have a bye this week and will try to end their losing streak in the final two games of the regular season taking on eighth ranked University of Iowa.

The Redbirds will host their final two homes games of the 2008 season February 8 and 9 at the Pepsi Ice Center in Bloomington.
