The businesses of Uptown Normal will be hosting a holiday open house this Saturday, Nov. 10 and Sunday, Nov. 11 to kick off the season.
This event will be a great way to spend time with the community and begin the celebration of the holidays.
Nora Dukowitz with the Town of Normal helped organize this event and commented on the open house and a few of the activities it would entail.
"This is an annual event. Each year we try to do something different. This year our business associations will show WB cartoons. The two showings will be free to the community on Sunday at 1 p.m and 3 p.m. at the Normal Theatre," Dukowitz said.
Anyone who attends the two different showings of the WB cartoons will receive a free goodie bag filled with coupons from the different merchants of Uptown Normal, including the Normal Theatre.
The various restaurants in Uptown Normal will also be having special sales and different activities on Saturday and Sunday as well.
"Various merchants often have holiday treats and promotions," Dukowitz said.
Pam Locsin of the Garlic Press who also helped with the organizing of the holiday open house discussed the event and other activities it would offer.
"The open house encompasses all participating businesses up and down Beaufort and North Street. On Saturday there will be free carriage rides from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. The rides will take off by the post office at the corner of North Street and Broadway," Locsin said.
Santa Claus will be walking up and down the street spreading good cheer.
There will be various other activities at The Children's Discovery Museum.
Carolers will also be performing along the street. The three different groups caroling are "The Parkside Jr. High Girls and Boys Ensemble," "Kingsley Jr. High Girls Ensemble" and "Table for Twelve."
"Our business association makes this an event for the entire community. There are all kinds of activities down here that are family friendly and student friendly. These activities are ones for the entire community to enjoy no matter who you are," Dukowitz said.
Locsin said this event would be a great way to bring the community together and begin celebrating the holiday season.
They encourage all to attend and participate in the holiday activities.
