Redbird Cinema is currently in need of video submissions for their Laugh Till You Cry Till You Laugh event, and students can win prizes for submitting their funny videos.
"It's kind of like an America's Funniest Home Videos format. We ask for students to submit their own little home videos of something funny that happened or even funny clips they have on their own of people acting," Adam Bauer, chair of redbird cinema, said.
Students who take the first, second, and third place positions will receive prizes for their videos.
"For first place, they get a $250 gift card to Best Buy. For second place, they get a $150 gift card to Barnes and Noble. Third place is a subscription to Netflix, and then dinner and movie gift certificates that equal $100 total," Bauer said.
Rules and regulations for the videos are located on the University Program Board Web site, and videos should be about two minutes in length. "Use common sense when you are submitting them. It is really up to our discretion if we are going to show a video or not. So if we find it completely distasteful we might not put it in there," Jill Camper, president of the university program board, said. Students can submit their videos to the University Program Board office, located on the first floor of the Bone Student Center.
"Pretty much how ever you can get it into our hands we will take it, but probably the easiest way is to drop it in at our office," Camper said. The event waiver states students cannot submit a video with any derogatory language or acts towards a specific group of people, excessive violence, alcohol or drug references or any language or act of explicit sexual activity. The waiver is located on the front page of the UPB Web site.
"If it will be OK to show on TV, then it will be OK for us to show," Bauer said. Redbird Cinema is presenting the event for the first time this year to incorporate students into their programs. "I think it is really just something different for us to do, and our main goal is really to get students involved. Now it's time for the students to put up what they want on video. So they are deciding what gets to be on the screen," Bauer said.
Camper said students can submit their videos they having lying around. "Whether it's from your digital camera, and you accidentally press record instead of taking a picture. It's a really great way to come laugh at yourself and laugh at your peers," Camper said. Participants have until Thanksgiving break to submit their videos, and the event will be held on Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. in the Capen Auditorium, located in Edwards Hall.
