A hearty thank you to the 450+ ISU students who joined the ISU Chapter of Habitat for Humanity (ISU HFH) on Halloween for our fourth annual Trick or Treat for Change event. Together, we raised $10,286.90 making it our most successful fundraiser.
We at ISU HFH cannot praise enough Sabrina Stout, Kelly Bols, Christina Gambino, and Harriett Steinbach of the ISU Student Volunteer Center for the magnificent job that they did in organizing the event. Bill Shields of ISU's Department of Geography-Geology provided invaluable maps.
Through their efforts, ISU volunteers have helped to raise the positive profile of ISU in the community. They have assisted another family in fulfilling their need for safe and affordable housing. In so doing, they joined in a social movement that has built over 225,000 homes in almost 90 countries across the globe since its inception in 1976. Locally, Habitat for Humanity of McLean County has built over 100 homes since it began in 1985. The IWU-ISU Collegiate Chapter has built 12 consecutive homes, making it the number two chapter in the nation. All of the money raised on Halloween will go directly towards defraying the costs of our 13th student-built house which will be completed in April of 2008.
Trick or Treat for Change's success raises the IWU-ISU Collegiate Chapter's total fundraising for the year to $18,086.90 of the total of $50,000 we must raise this year.
Thank you again to all the ISU volunteers. We are very proud to be working alongside you.
